Join Rootead in celebration of West African culture by learning the movement, rhythm and the song “Funga Alafia,” the song of welcome that means “good health” or “peace” in Yoruba. This workshop is suitable for all ages and backgrounds!

As a culmination of this celebration of African Heritage Food and Culture, join this celebratory performance of West African dance by Rootead Youth Drum and Dance Ensemble, affectionately known as RYDDE (pronounced RIDE). RYDDE studies and performs music and dance of the African Diaspora with roots stemming from West Africa that connect to American soil! This pre-professional drum and dance company for youth ages 13 - 18 values respect, generative communication, teamwork, personal growth and dedication.
